POFE Co-Founder Katharine Coles' Background

Katharine has had a life-long passion for nonprofits. From her very first volunteer gig, at 8 years old, working with disabled children to working today as a foster saving the lives of dogs, she is dedicated to nonprofits succeeding and the world becoming a better place.

Katharine has worked with hundreds of nonprofits all over the U.S. and around the world. A "self-proclaimed information and technology geek", she started in marketing technology for MCI and Stratus Computer.

Taking that valuable knowledge, she later began to work in the nonprofit world for Women in Technology International and, later, she took the giant leap of realizing her dream of owning her own business. Since then, she has created branding, marketing and fundraising programs, and events for such nonprofits as The Farrah Fawcett Foundation, Meals on Wheels, San Diego Center for the Blind, A.G.Bell, and Women in Technology International.

Working as a nonprofit marketing and fundraising expert, Katharine’s "special sauce" includes an uncanny knack to "degeek" information into succinct messaging and impactful statements. Along with being skilled in Product Development, she also loves creating methodical, detailed-oriented processes that have helped hundreds of nonprofits implement corporate-quality websites, social media, fundraising, and branding to achieve online success.

As part of Katharine’s “Marketing Fitness Program”, San Diego Center for the Blind has grown followers from zero to over 10,000, along with launching highly successful Holiday Appeal Campaigns that have netted thousands of dollars.

Early Steps is another example of an organization that achieved outstanding success. During COVID, they held an online fundraising event that netted over $38,000 after only investing $3,000 in producing the event. As Jacqui Pelzer, Executive Director of Early Steps said, "Wow!!! One of the things that we appreciate about working with you is the fact that you listen to us and bigger than that you hear us. You took our ruminations and made them better than our imaginations could conjure.”
